TJ: So for starters who is Aiwal Ture?
Aiwal Ture.: Well im an individual who seeks truth and understanding as we all do.
You know a man of trial, loss, and victory. A cat definitely out the box; living life the way
i feel it should be.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TJ: Is Aiwal Ture your government name?
Aiwal Ture: No
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TJ: What is the meaning?
Aiwal Ture.: Well it came about in sort of a natural way. Its two ways of describing it.
First off you got the actual term in its true form,A.W.O.L which of course means
Absent With Out Leave. When a person goes AWOL, that person has freed themselves from a certain
situation on their own terms. That itself is not only how my music is, but its how i attempt to
live this life;on my own terms. Second, the way its spelled comes from a saying meand the fellas used
to greet each other with; All Is Well And Living. Just so happens the acronym is spelled like that.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TJ:What is your musical background?
AiwalTure:Well my Grandfather used to sing and tour in a gospel group. I used to love the effect
they would have on an audience. From that point i wanted to connect with people like that.
My brothers were heavy in the band as well. And i took piano and trumpet lessons.
Wish i had stuck to it.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TJ:Why do you want to record and sell your music?
Aiwal Ture: Well art is the most beautiful expression on earth, and being granted the talent to
be in this group is a honor. I feel wholeheartedly that God gave me the blueprint to create.
And i refuse to rob God of the gifts given. I want to change and persuade situations. I want
to make people move and feel good. I want to capture every possible emotion of a person.
Be the author of me and those who cant be seen or heard.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TJ:What are your songs about?
Aiwal Ture: All my songs are about the trials, the victories, and the in between moments
we endure during this life. All of them; the good, the bad, the highs, and the lows.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TJ: Do you write your own songs?
Aiwal Ture: I write them all. From the verse to the hook. Mostly all my songs begin as poems.
Then they evolve. i usually recite my poems to my homie who plays guitar, and he feeds off of my
energy freestyling with the guitar until both energies blend. I love to create from the ground up,
but i will take a track and write to it as well. As long as i can feel it. I just cant write any damn
thing.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TJ: Who are your musical influences?
Aiwal Ture; Whoa! Lets see.Tupac hands down. The passion of that man was beyond reach.
Scarface and the Geto Boys. They're so damn free to say what they want. Cube, Too Short, Eightball,
MJG, Outkast(from top to bottom), Snoop, Quik, Kam, Rakim, Wu, Redman. Ooohwee! Frankie Beverly
and Maze, Earth Wind and Fire, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu(Ohh I really love that lady right there!),
Fela Kuti, Red Hot Chili Peppers; ugh! this list can go on and on! But let me this.
Everybody i named i guarantee you can find how they influenced my work through my songs.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TJ: How do you describe your music to people?
Aiwal Ture: Two words! Uncensored Purity
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TJ: Explain that.
Aiwal Ture: Its music that cant be stopped or limited, yet its so pure and authentic.
I would say real but that word has been overused and fabricated.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TJ: What image do you think your music conveys?
Aiwal Ture: My music suggests that being imperfect is perfect. That we all are uniquely gifted
and challenged. and we all should appreciate our differences. Taking a look at the past,
the present, and where it could be.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TJ: What are your immediate goals?
Aiwal Ture: To have the best thought provoking album of 2009 and 2010, begin touring
throughout the states and the world, and develop a serious worldwide fan base.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TJ: And your long term goals?
AiwalTure: To knock down the wall and borders that hinder artists throughout the diaspora
from working with each other. Oh yeah i also want to master the blues like John Lee Hooker
and BB King.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TJ: Define success.

Whether its financially, emotionally, spiritually, physically, whatever.
